South African Poet Laureate interview by Mark Lawson at London Book Fair

London Book Fair will commence next week and has a special focus on featuring literature from South Africa.  The trade fair will be held at Earls Court and runs from Monday 19th - Wednesday 21st April, 2010 and is the main opportunity in the UK calendar for international publishers, authors, film rights buyers and retailers to get together to showcase the season's new literature, and an enormous list of exhibiters will be in attendance. In addition, there are seminars, workshops, prizes and author interviews, which promise to have a variety of international flavours on offer.

Broadcaster and author Mark Lawson will interview Professor Keorapetse Kgositsile one of the first exiled ANC member during the South African apartheid regime. He is now Poet Laureate for South Africa and has a string of award winning literary creations starting with 'Spirits Unchained' in 1969. This interview will be followed by former foreign correspondent for the BBC author and journalist, Kate Adie, who will interview Hilary Mantel about her Booker prize novel Wolf Hall. Hilary also has an Africa connection, having lived in Botswana for several years. She will be available following the interview to sign copies of her book.

Other visiting authors speaking at the London Book Fair include: Poet – Sarah Hesketh; Children's Laureate – Anthony Browne; Author, Journalist and Blogger – Cory Doctorow; Sue McGregor will interview authors Sindiwe Magona and Antjie Krog. Talks will be given by other authors including:  Etienne Van Heerden, Ian Rankin, Craig Campbell, Julia Eccleshare, Andre Brink, John Van Der Ruit and Samantha Naidu.
