The Leopard: A Harry Hole thriller (Oslo Sequence 6) Book

The Leopard is the sixth in the Harry Hole series by Jo Nesbo. Set in Oslo, Harry Hole is the alcoholic, drug taking, ruthless, intelligent, uncompromising detective called in to investigate the murder of two women. When a third body is discovered it becomes clear that he is dealing with a serial killer. The book has all the ingredients of crime fiction; gory murders, police corruption, dissipated but intelligent detective but that is where any similarity to any other crime fiction you may have read ends. Jo Nesbo takes the genre to another height, this is in another class. The Leopard is 610 pages long and is almost impossible to put down and it is equally difficult to avoid using clichés when recommending this superb book. It is dark, intense and complex. The intricate and complicated plot races along, driven by heart stopping suspense. Descriptions of torture and murder are brutal and stomach churning and at times the tension is almost unbearable. There are chilling twists and turns and red herrings along the way but I defy any reader to predict the denouement. There is nothing superfluous in this book, every sentence and every word is weighted to give maximum impact in what is a highly intelligent, imaginative thriller. Highly recommended. Read More
