Give a Child a Book this Christmas

14 November 2011

It can be difficult to find the perfect gift for a child at Christmas without breaking the bank but we have put together a list of books where you can find the perfect gift for any child at any age at very affordable prices. It's never too soon to introduce a young child to the joy of books nor is it ever too late to instil a real love and fascination for reading in older children.

We begin with books for young adults, possibly the most difficult age for choosing a gift. "A Monster Calls" by Costa Award winner Patrick Ness is a moving, compelling story, beautifully told and exquisitely illustrated by Jim Kay. This book is a treasure to give and receive.
There is a fantastic choice of books for 8 to 12 year olds and almost every child in this age group will be waiting for "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Cabin Fever" by Jeff Kinney. Due for release on 16th November, make sure you get your copy.
Also for this age group the Jacqueline Wilson 2011 Annual will definitely be a sure hit
For 5 to 7 year olds - "The Adventures of Captain Underpants" by Dav Pilkey is a laugh out loud book that even the most reluctant reader will thoroughly enjoy.

Also for 5-7 year olds - the seasonal "Aliens Love Panta Claus" by Claire Freedman - a bright funny book where the aliens join forces to help Santa on Christmas Eve.

2 to 4 year olds will love "Dogger" by Shirley Hughes. It's a heart-warming tale about the loss of a much loved toy but with a happy ending. It's a lovely book to read aloud to a child –again and again.

For 0 to 2 year olds we have chosen "Where's Spot?" by Eric Hill which is a delightful lift the flap story for the very young.

Also, the ever popular "We're Going On a Bear Hunt" by Michael Rosen. Children absolutely love this story, they want it repeated over and over again and they soon join in with the story. It's fun and it's durable.
