Julia Donaldson is the new Children's Laureate.

Julia Donaldson, author of the best loved children's book "The Gruffalo" is Britain's new Children's Laureate. Of the 120 books by the author, "The Gruffalo" is probably the most famous, selling millions of copies worldwide and one of the most popular children's books ever published. It is a delightful tale of a wily little mouse and a scary monster and young children love to hear it read aloud.

On winning the post as Laureate, Donaldson said that she would be an "advocate for reading" and it would appear that no less a person is needed to promote reading among young children, when a recent survey revealed that hundreds of British children have no access at all to books at home. At the event, on Tuesday 7th June, it was said that the new Children's Laureate had "a passion to excite, educate and entertain children"
