Past winner Peter Carey makes Man Booker Prize Longlist

Authors David Mitchell, Rose Tremain and Damon Galgut (previous nominees) also appear in this year's Bookers dozen with their novels - The Thousand Autumns of Zacob de Zoet, Trespass and In a Strange Room, respectively.
In addition, Andrea Levy, winner of the Orange Prize for Fiction in 2004 has made the longlist with The Long Song, along with newcomers Alan Warner with his novel, The Stars in the Bright Sky, and Paul Murray's ,Skippy Dies.
Judge and Chairman Sir Andrew Motion described the longlist as being of exceptional quality, with diverse geography and all of which "tell powerful stories".
The six authors who will make up the shortlist will be revealed on 7th September, each receiving £2,500, with the winner of the prize picking up £50,000, on 12th October at a ceremony in London.
Bets have already been placed on the favourite to win this year's Booker prize. Carey is currently in the running with odds of 3/1. David Mitchell's, The Thousand Autumns of Zacob de Zoet is also hotly tipped to pick up the award.
