Lucy Christopher has a prize winning book 'Stolen' at the Branford Boase Award

Lucy Christopher was presented with the Branford Boase award last night, for her novel 'Stolen'; a story about Gemma, a young woman who is drugged in an airport and held hostage in the Australian outback. The novel is a narrated in a poignant letter to Ty; the man who is her besotted and disturbed captor, and is a tale of survival in a landscape and atmosphere where the alternative possibility of getting away is equally terrorizing.

The Branford Boase award was presented by children's author Jacqueline Wilson, and is given annually to acknowledge exceptional works of fiction for children and teenagers, composed by debut authors. Lucy Christopher and her editor, Imogen Cooper, each received a cheque for £1000 and a hand crafted box, with a silver in-laid motif.
Julia Eccleshare, Guardian Editor for children's books, and the chair of judges for the Branford-Boase award described' Stolen' thus: 'Sure-footed and without a word wasted Lucy has created a fantastic sense of place'.
Lucy Christopher book 'Stolen' was nominated for the 2010 Carnegie Medal and her second novel 'Flyaway', is also enjoying 5 star reviews on Amazons review pages, and was nominated for the 2010 Waterstone's Children's Book Prize. Lucy is a lecturer at Bath Spa University, but her Australian childhood has captivated her soul, and she is currently studying for a PhD, exploring the way Australian literature uses language to illustrate wild places.
