Ian McEwan's Solar makes Bollinger Everyman Wodehouse Prize 2010 shortlist

Ian McEwan's latest novel, Solar has made it into the Bollinger Everyman Wodehouse prize shortlist. The humorous take on the subject of climate change, follows physicist Michael Beard as he escapes his problematic home life, to visit the Arctic in the name of science. Whilst on his quest to save the world, Beard's research into pressing environmental issues leads him to experience a multitude of problems, not all created by global warming.
 

The four other comic novels appearing on the shortlist include Tiffany Murray's Diamond Star Halo, From Aberystwyth With Love by Malcolm Pryce, Paul Murray's Skippy Dies and One Day by David Nicholls.
 

The prize named after P G Wodehouse, was set up in 2000 to honour comic fiction writers work over the last 12 months. This year's judging panel is made up of David Campbell, James Naughtie and Peter Florence, Director of the Hay Festival.
 

The winner of the prize will be revealed in May at the Hay Literary Festival, they will walk away with 52 volumes of the Everyman Wodehouse edition, Champagne and also have a Gloucestershire Old Spot Pig named after their book.
