Google and authors gets book deal extension

A Manhattan judge has granted Google an extension until Friday to come up with a new proposal that would give the retail giant the digital rights to millions of out-of-print books.

Google believed it had settled the dispute with publishers and authors over a year ago; however, it failed to win court approval because there were widespread objections and concerns that it gave the retailer too much control over the market.

Google continues to hold discussions with the Department of Justice over the case.
