Free the Word Festival in London 14 - 18 April

The global literature theme is the focus for 2010 Free the Word Festival of World Literature which begins on Wednesday 14th April at London's Southbank Centre and takes place at several venues including; Southwark Playhouse, Foyle's bookshop, the LSE, the Young Vic and the Free The Word Centre. London will host 40 writers from 25 countries in its ambitious attempt to blend cultural literature and has some first time visiting authors to the UK as well as including some established and prize winning authors such as Nobel winning Derek Walcott and Egyptian novelist Nawal El Saadawi, James Kelman and Juan Gabriel Vásquez.

International PEN, the sponsors of 'Free the Word', is a registered charity and was founded in 1921 to promote literature and cross cultural dialogue and empowerment for writers. It has a range of active supporters on its committee, including Margaret Attwood, Bill Bryson, JM Coetzee, John Le Carré and Sir Alan Ayckburn
