Orange Prize for Fiction 2010 longlist revealed

The highly anticipated longlist for the Orange Prize for Fiction has been announced today. Made up of female authors, the list includes twenty original full-length novels, written in English and published in the UK between 1st April 2009 and 31st March 2010.
 

An array of award winning writers feature in the list, such as Hilary Mantel with the book Wolf Hall, which won the 2009 Man Booker Prize and only last week won the US National Book Critics Circle Award. Her previous work Beyond Black was also shortlisted for the Orange Prize for Fiction in 2006.
 

Other authors appearing in this year's longlist who have also been chosen as a contender for the prize in the past, include Rebecca Gowers whose previous title When to Walk made the 2007 longlist, Sadie Jones appeared on the 2008 shortlist and won the Costa First Novel Award for The Outcast, and Sarah Waters whose previous titles Fingersmith and The Night Watch were both shortlisted for the fiction prize in 2002 and 2006 respectively.
 

Judges Baroness Neuberger, Michele Roberts, Miranda Sawyer, Alexandra Shulman and chairwoman Daisy Goodwin will now scrutinise each book to decide on the shortlist, which will be announced on 20th April. The awards ceremony will then take place on 9th June where the winning author will be presented with the £30,000 prize.
