Decline in children reading fiction books

A study has found that over half of children aged 9-14 don't regularly read fiction books. The report by the National Literacy Trust has revealed that less than 50% of children in this age group read fiction books more than once a month, instead preferring to spend their spare time playing computer games or searching the internet.

Although the report did suggest that over 70% of children still take the time to read magazines at least once a month.

Experts have suggested that the move towards more online learning and the increase in time children spend on computers could affect their learning in the future, causing problems with traditional types of education.
