Stephenie Meyer's vampire-romance saga, Twilight, has given children's book sales a big lift.

According to figures from Nielson BookScan, the book market may be recoiling slightly in the recession, but children's books are looking very healthy.

In 2009 children's book sales were up 4.9% and picture books sales were up 13% on 2008. In the UK alone over 60 million children's books were sold in 2009, making £293m for the book industry and of that total, the Twilight books added up to £29.3m - that's 10%!
