Waterstone's to get a shake-up by Dominic Myers

After an "unsatisfactory" 8.9pc slump in like-for-like sales at Waterstone's over Christmas, the HMV group has decided to part ways with their Managing Director Gerry Johnson and has vowed to shake things up.

With merciless competition from low-price supermarkets and online retailers, the group's chief executive Simon Fox has announced that the chain will need to offer something different and as a result will be rebranding Waterstone's as more of a local bookshop. This mean the bookshop will tailor its range to local communities and will become less reliant on chain-wide promotions and "big celebrity titles".
