Beatrix Potter books will receive a TV makeover

Beatrix Potter's publisher Frederick Warne and its licensing agent Chorion are planning to rework and update classic characters such as Peter Rabbit and Jemima Puddle-Duck in a new TV cartoon series, which will hit screens all over the world in 2011.


The original Tale of Peter Rabbit was written in 1893 and it is hoped that this new move, which involves new adventures and a 21st century makeover, will appeal to a broader audience and a new generation of young viewers.


Chorion chairman Waheed Alli said in the Guardian;


"At the moment they are the top end. So posh people buy them in America and posh to middle class people buy them here. Our job is to take them from the high end to allow all children to buy into it. It's about democratising the brand."
