Spielberg to Adapt War Horse for the Silver Screen

Director Steven Spielberg has brought the film rights to Michael Morpurgo's 1982 Children's novel War Horse. The story, which will soon be trotting onto the big screen, follows a farmhand who braves the trenches in order to find his treasured horse.

Morpugo said "I can think of no one better to do this. It is so exciting. I only just learnt this in the last two days. After such a fantastic success with the play, it needs someone of his imagination and skill at turning books into great visual experiences for the film version." (London Evening Standard 21/12/09)

It is believed Oscar nominated scriptwriter Lee Hall (Billy Elliot) will write the screenplay and it is still unknown whether Spielberg will direct or take a producer role in the film.
