Evie Wyld wins top literary prize with her debut novel

29-year-old Evie Wyld has won this year's John Llewellyn Rhys Prize and the £5000 cheque with her book After the Fire, A Still Small Voice.


The Londoner fought of stiff competition from the likes of Aravind Adiga and the Orange Prize winner Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.


Set in Australia, the tale tells of the deep bond between fathers and sons and about the wars they fight between themselves and the secrets they keep for each other.

 

The John Llewellyn Rhys award is the second oldest literary prize in Britain and is presented annually to a UK or Commonwealth writer aged less than 35 for a work of fiction, non-fiction or poetry.
