Uppark (National Trust Guide Books) Book

On 30 August 1989, Uppark in West Sussex, was gutted by fire. Fortunately, most of the 18th-century paintings, ornate Rococo furniture and Sevres porcelain were rescued, and have now been returned to interiors painstakingly re-created by the National Trust. This book describes the fire and the saving of Uppark. It also provides an up-to-date account of Uppark's earlier history, including such famous stories as Emma Hamilton's dancing naked on the dining table, to Sir Harry's wooing of his dairymaid. The book has been published to coincide with the re-opening of Uppark on 1 June 1995 and is a central part of the Trust's centenary celebrations.Read More
