Tracks Book
A thriller about the passions that drive technology forward, and the potential of the surveillance society... In Boston, Global HealthCare Corporation is hoping to recover its fortunes with a new micro-chip technology which can eradicate disease - until Peter Miller, the brilliant but troubled architect of the program, quits his job and goes to work at a psychiatric hospital in London, helping develop a system to track dangerous patients. When a deadly threat to the US emerges, a covert Federal agency becomes involved, and Miller is caught up in a web of lies, love, insanity and murder - and finds he¿s opened the door to a frightening future. Synopsis Peter Miller, a computer genius, loves technology for its own sake, as a pure art form ¿ and as an escape from real life and its relationships. His employer, Global HealthCare, sees technology solely as a way to make money ¿ a great deal of money ¿ offering a way out of the corporation¿s financial trouble. Theodore Lamb, a wealthy investor, sees it as an opportunity for a financial killing ¿ and a possible means to achieve longevity, perhaps even secure eternal life, so he can remain with his younger mistress, Julia. While Gresham Taylor, a dubious psychiatrist, who¿s experimenting on a dangerous patient at a hospital in London, has much darker plans for the use of technology. When Miller leaves Global, disgusted with the corporation¿s refusal to recognize the value of his brain-child - the Tracks system, which can follow and monitor patients - he joins Taylor in London, and infiltrates Tracks into Taylor¿s project. But he hasn¿t escaped the long reach of Global and Lamb, and when a horrific biological threat arises in Texas, a secretive Federal agency begins to take an interest in his work. Becoming deeply involved with Taylor¿s research assistant, Sarah Ross, Miller uses Tracks to safeguard her - accidentally letting the Agency steal Tracks. And the Agency has the most sinister interest of all in what technology can do . . . About The Author Mike Gordon holds degrees in physics from the Universities of Cambridge and London.
