Theological Liberalism: Creative and Critical Book

This book is a contribution to the ongoing and long-lasting debate between Liberal and Evangelical Christians, with particular relevance to the divided Anglicanism. With Evangelicalism currently in the ascendant in the Church of England, both at grass-roots level and amongst the clergy, many Liberals are feeling a loss of the very right to call themselves Christians. Hence a perception among Liberal thinkers of a need for Liberal theology to be better understood, and hence this book. Theological Liberalism is a collection of essays by Liberal theologians--both lay academics and clergypersons--in part setting out their own position, but mainly exploring the ramifications of their 1997 "Liverpool Statement", which called for greater dialogue between the two camps in order to break down "tribalism"; for the acceptance of "a plurality of perspectives"; and for theology in Britain to make itself more relevant to today's multi-cultural society, and to the Church.
