Cosmetic surgery, menopause and fertility are some of the subjects covered in this comprehensive health book for women. The author considers physical, mental and emotional well-being in a straightforward and objective manner which makes for easy reading and quick access to the relevant information. It begins with an overview of women's health and the issues surrounding it, including complementary therapies, diet and exercise, before going on to examine the different systems of the body. In the final section, Dr Robinson concentrates on the specific problems experienced by women and these are covered in considerable depth. The chapter on cosmetic surgery, new for this second edition of the book, is a valuable addition, where the facts are given in a practical and non-judgmental way. Also useful is the information about the health service and the rights of patients. Diagrams are simple but informative, although photographs or extra illustrations would have enhanced the publication. Another gripe is that the second edition contains some anomalies in the layout. Often the reader is asked to see above or below, when the information is in fact several pages away. All in all, though, this is an interesting read for women who want to take responsibility for their own well-being, and an excellent addition to any bookshelf. --Carole ButterworthRead More
