The Saturday Big Tent Wedding Party: The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, Book 12 (No 1 Ladies Detective Agency12) Book

The Saturday Big Tent Wedding Party is the twelfth installment of Alexander McCall's No 1 Ladies Detective Agency series and will, no doubt, be enthusiastically welcomed by the millions of fans of the series. It's another slice of delicious storytelling. The protagonist, Precious Ramotswe, Botswana's first and only, lady detective, is a colourful, warm, cunning, intelligent creation with an innate understanding of human nature and boundless common sense. In this latest book in the series she tackles yet another clutch of problems which threaten to trouble the lives of the people she loves and respects. At once a bit of a busy body and yet an intelligent, logical lady, she will deal with every situation until resolved to the satisfaction of everyone involved.The countdown to the long the awaited marriage of Phuti Radiphuti and Grace Makutsi begins, but the attention of Mma Ramotswe is diverted to other, more serious matters, namely a rather unpleasant and puzzling case of cattle poisoning. Then there is the business of Phuti's apprentice Charlie, who, when his girlfriend gives birth to twins and he is pressurized to marry her, decides the only way to avoid responsibility is to run away. However he hasn't reckoned with the intervention of Mma Ramotwe who, with the assistance of Grace, is on hand to help sort things out for the young couple.There's also the severe problem of Violet Sephotho and her determination to run for Parliament which can only mean trouble for Mma Ramotswe's beloved Botswana. Once again the tale unfolds with all the hallmarks of the story telling of Alexandra McCall Smith. There is a unique blend of wit, wisdom, gentle irony and of course a very satisfying conclusion.Aficionados of No1 Ladies Detective Agency series will already be familiar with this delightful kaleidoscope of colourful characters and all their foibles. It is of course the characters, rather than the investigations, which make the series such a resounding success. Readers become involved with their lives and come to regard them as part of a much loved extended family and to quote Mr. McCall "You will find people just like Mma Ramotswe and Mma Makutsi there" in Botswana. If you haven't yet been introduced to the inimitable and immensely likeable Mma Ramotswe and her friends then let me recommend her for an extremely comfortable and satisfying read. This book and in fact the whole series, is the perfect panacea for the problems and troubles of real life.Read More

    As the countdown to Mma Makutsi's wedding begins all is not as it should be at the No.1 Ladies' Detective Agency. While investigating unpleasant occurrences on a southern cattle-post Mma Ramotswe always on the side of the weak against the strong has reason to reflect on Rule No.3 of The Principles of Private Detection: never lie to the client. Apprentice mechanic Charlie seems to be avoiding certain important responsibilities. And as Mma Makutsi's big day approaches her nemesis Violet Sephotho is casting her net wider: by standing for election which could spell trouble for the entire nation. But as friends and family gather under starry African night skies it turns out that even the most perplexing of apparitions - and the most shocking of crimes - may yield to rational explanation. And of course to Mma Ramotswe's inimitable way with love intuition and redbush tea. ;
