The E-business (R)evolution: Living and Working in an Interconnected World (Hewlett Packard Professional) Book

There are many handbooks which claim to provide both guidance on formulating Internet strategies and an understanding of what does--and does not--make the Internet tick. Few live up to the expectations built up by their dust jacket, but this one comes closer than most. Marketed as a handbook for entrepreneurs and executives working on e-business plans, the book covers both technical and strategic aspects of what is for many a daunting and too often misunderstood new medium. Making money is a key issue for many Internet newcomers, and Amor devotes space to good-practice issues like monitoring competitors as well as the more obvious topic of handling payments. Here as elsewhere he outlines the alternative approaches, explaining their pros and cons, and providing real-world usage examples, but never delving so deep as to loose the non-technical reader. It is no good having a great Web site if nobody ever visits it, and in another key section of the book Amor offers advice on marketing on the Internet. Elsewhere he covers more technical topics like handling images and using JAVA, while further chapters tackle search engines and the complex area of data security. Towards the end of the book Amor takes a look into the future, giving today's entrepreneurs an idea of how to plan their Internet presence with an eye on tomorrow. The E-business (R)evolution is liberally peppered with references to Web sites so readers can conduct their own research and follow up interesting leads. Any non-technical or semi-technical person thinking of taking their business onto the Internet would do well to read this book. --Sandra VogelRead More
