Spaces for Living Book

Liz Bauwen and Alexandra Campbell have worked on a whole string of glossy décor magazines such as Good Housekeeping. For their book Spaces for Living they have done what many magazines don't do--photograph real homes. They have chosen homes which they feel are stylish and easy to live in. The styles of the homes they chose vary slightly, but most tend to be contemporary rather than modernist. Kitchens, open-plan spaces, bedrooms, studies and conservatories are among the "spaces" described. Each is lavishly photographed and many include checklists, to draw attention to power points, storage and insulation. Much of the advice seems obvious, but is often forgotten in the initial enthusiasm of a decorating project. The book is also realistic about what readers can be expected to achieve: "Employ an architect to make maximum use of a difficult space." One of the best features of the book is the buyer's directory in the back. All the furniture, lighting, storage, bedding and china featured on the books Creating the Look pages come from the companies in this directory, many of which offer a mail order selection.Read More
