Plague (Gone) Book

Readers of the Gone series by Michael Grant have been waiting impatiently for Plaque the fourth book in the series and they will not be disappointed. The writing is sharp, tense and crackles at breakneck speed through plots and sub plots hurtling to a cliff hanging conclusion. The adults disappeared eight months ago...they are Gone, and only the kids (all of them under 15) are left. The fight for survival begins. Supplies of food and clean water are running out but the real threat to survival is the unimaginable horror of the relentless, violent threats to their existence. They have fought fire, mutations, monsters, torture, blood and gore. Now they have to face the Plaque as well as flesh eating bugs and giant cockroaches. There is a clever character development with each of the kids and the way in which they react to the terrifying predicament they find themselves in. Strengths and sinister weaknesses are revealed, occasionally heroic, occasionally villainous as each of the characters struggles with their own personal demons as well as the relentless attacks of an evil alien force. This is the classic battle of good against evil, an intelligent and unique read , with just an echo of The Lord of the Flies, but there are no holds barred. The book is fascinatingly horrific and Michael Grant does not hold back the descriptions of nauseating, terrifying and shocking scenes. Be warned this is not a book for the fainthearted, but fans of the series are addicted and you may well become one of them.Read More
