Life and Laughing: My Story Book

That Michael McIntyre had to struggle hard for success in a business where so few are successful is apparent in his book. In parts it is achingly poignant and then hilariously funny. His heartbreaking attempt to sell tickets at the Edinburgh Festival, indifferent audiences, coping with overwhelming debt and his sheer determination to make it are told with both pathos and humour. Yet this is a sensitive man and the angst of his adolescent years and his frustrating encounters with the opposite sex are superbly funny as is his determined wooing of the lady who became his wife. The characters are well drawn, especially his Hungarian grandmother, what a character she was. This is a laugh out loud book, but it also generates respect for a man who, although still very young, has succeeded as a genuine British comic who relies on his own unique talent rather than resorting to lurid or offensive material. I can only recommend this very funny book.Read More
