John Wilcockson's World of Cycling Book
In the World of Cycling John Wilcockson has selected 22 stories he has written over the past 30 years as a cycling journalist. Prior to joining the American cycling magazine Velonews, Wilcockson was cycling correspondent for the Times and the Sunday Times.World of Cycling covers the year of cycling starting with the Etoile de Besseges in February finishing in Zurich in November with the Zurich Six. In between, Wilcockson covers the whole range of competitive cycling from the European road race, the Tour de France, the Giro d'Italia, time-trailing in London, the World hour record attempt in Mexico City and Columbia, to the Three Peaks Cyclo-Cross, England and the World Mountain Bike Championships, Colorado. Each chapter gives a brief summary of the heritage of the event before proceeding to cover the tactics of the personalities and events within the race. Wilcockson intersperses the race detail with anecdotes and personal memories. In the early years of his career, he describes the dedication of the sports journalist in the 1960s. On occasions he followed the events on bike, cycling between stages, and between the major races. He contrasts this with the sponsorship, big salaries and global media of the 1990s. --Marc WilliamsRead More
