Enterprise Culture (International Library of Sociology) Book

The aim of this volume is to provide a critical understanding of the nature and implications of the enterprise culture. The book consists of 12 papers, all specially written for this volume, and an introduction which maps out some of the key conceptual and theoretical issues raised by the phenomenon. The first batch of papers draws upon the political claims made on behalf of enterprise culture. The papers in the second section explore the international dimension of enterprise culture. They examine the similarities and differences between British, French, West German and Hungarian experience and some of the broader developments raised by the issue of "post-Fordist" production and its relation to enterprise. The final section is devoted to a consideration of the effect of enterprise culture upon consumers. The concept of consumer-led production is both analyzed theoretically and illustrated concretely in areas such as design and law. The contributors to this volume are all members of the University of Lanacaster's Centre for the study of cultural values. The approaches taken in their papers represent a wide range of academic disciplines and theoretical perspectives including social theory, political economy, discourse analysis, intellectual history and social philosophy. The volume should be of interest not only to academics, but to all those who wish to understand the nature and significance of an enterprise culture.Read More
