The "Crick Committee Report" provided the impetus and rationale for the Citizenship Order, which introduced citizenship education as a compulsory element of the core curriculum in all secondary schools in England from 2002. This volume provides a comprehensive study on the concept of democratic citizenship, its conditions and pre-requisites, that has an established place in higher education courses in politics, social policy, sociology and social philosophy.
