Classic Meets Contemporary: Twelve Top Designers Create Interiors for Today Book

Classic Meets Contemporary describes the work of 12 designers who participated in author Fleur Rossdale's British Interior Design Exhibition in 1997, in which each room in a mansion in Regent's Park, London, was redecorated. Rossdale, a columnist for House and Garden, wrote the book with Henrietta Spencer- Churchill, who was one of the exhibitors and the first chapter of the book is devoted to her work. The other decorators include the classicists Victoria Waymouth and Tessa Kennedy, the modernists Jenny Armit and Philip Hooper, and the contemporary designers Baker Nevile and Stephen Ryan. The book has lavish photographs of each of the rooms at the exhibition along with detailed descriptions of how the rooms were designed. Its strength is in describing how classic design can be adapted to meet the needs of a contemporary lifestyle. Unfortunately, there are few "before" pictures and no floor plans or elevations. It will provide inspiration for those with big decorating budgets, but it is primarily a glossy catalogue for the designers featured.Read More
