A Journey to Disillusionment (Oxford Pakistan paperbacks) Book
Though primarily the memoirs of a leading Opposition figure during the Bhutto and zia eras, the book is also, in part, a history of Pakistan written with an uncommonly frank and original perspective. The book begins with the start of Sirdar Sherbaz Mazari's career in politics as a young man entering the fray in opposition to the Ayub Khan government, against a background of events that shaped the history of the country. This is followed by an account of the Bhutto and Zia periods. The author provides a unique insider's description of the Opposition's dealings with Bhutto and makes interesting revelations about the leading political players and the events of those tumultuous times, which eventually led to Bhutto's ouster in 1977. Much is also revealed about Zia's long rule and his relations with the Opposition. Sirdar Sherbaz Mazari lives up to his reputation as a man of integrity by being direct and forthright. The author's eventual disillusionment can be determined from the title of this book.Read More
