Dolly Parton and Katie Price standing out on World Book Day

March 4th 2010 is World Book Day; an annual festivity aiming to introduce children from a young age to the world of reading.  Katie Price (aka Jordan) and Dolly Parton, known for glamour modelling and country singing respectively, are perhaps less known for their love of books, and their own creative writing for children. Both Dolly and Jordan are masters of publicity and promotion, and utilise their skills in this to great effect. So it should be no surprise that they chose World Book Day to launch their books.

However apart from the physical attributes of both lovely ladies, the similarities of these book promotions to end there.
Dolly's book is a beautifully illustrated children's book called 'I am a Rainbow', and is written for under 5 year olds to help them consider the emotions they have as colours, such as 'feeling blue' or being 'tickled pink', as well as introducing little ones to the joy of reading.  Dolly's passion for books began as a child herself, when she was introduced to bible stories by her father who was a church minister in the deep south of America. Dolly Parton is so passionate about children reading that she set up a foundation called the 'Dollywood' which provides what is known as the Imagination Library, supplying free books to children, regardless of means, to under fives across the US, Canada and the UK. So not surprisingly, the wise lady has chosen World Book Day to launch her new children's book, which fits beautifully with the objectives of World Book Day because Dolly has promised that all profits raised from the book will go directly to the Dollywood Foundation for the 'Imagination Library'.

So what can we say about Katie Prices book? Well!  Here at find book we have found lots of books apparently written by Katie that are aimed at children and adults. And it must be said that Katie can't do much else other than write. She must be burning the midnight oil writing her stories and autobiographies, judging by the amount of books she has managed to have published.  She has managed to write 28 books since March 2007. I am not much of a follower of Katie, but I know she has children and a couple of marriages, as well as a lot of commitment to Derby House Equestrian supplies, plus a string of celebrity engagements. No wonder most women feel like a failure if they allow Katie Price to be their role model. It has nothing to do with the size of her personal assets. The much bigger question is; how on earth does she manage to have time to be so prolific a writer? However I can't comment on the childrens books, as Katie was not writing when my own children were under 5.

Anyway, Katie's latest book ' Standing out' is going to be available in paperback on world book day, and the most I can say is; I admire her promotional talent more than the writing.
