Ultimatum Book

Once again Simon Kernick has produced a tense, gripping, nail biting, thriller. It begins with an early morning bomb attack on a London cafe, followed by an ultimatum from the terrorist group claiming responsibility for the atrocity. The threat and the demands are credible; unless British troops are immediately pulled out of Afghanistan the City will be devastated by further attacks. DCI Mike Bolt and DC Tina Boyd are charged with the onerous task of tracking the terrorists and protecting the British Government and the citizens of London and all before the deadline of 8pm on the same day. There is one man who may have some vital information, but he is the devious "Fox" arrested for his involvement in the siege of a London hotel and a man hardly to be trusted. Readers will remember this character from Kernick's previous novel "Seige".Before very long Bolt and Boyd realize that they are dealing with a very powerful, well organized, force and the action begins, mostly during the course of one day and in a series of short crackling chapters they attempt to foil professional killers and arms dealers as well as terrorists. It really is a suspense filled race against time through a series of giddying twists and turns. But there is another agenda and a probable set up - can they succeed? The characters are sharp, the plot is exhilarating, the action is breathtaking, this is a great read. Happily there are indications at the end of the book that there will be a sequel to Ultimatum and I for one cannot wait.Read More
