The Laughing Corpse, part 2 of the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series, is a far better novel than its predessesor, Guilty Pleasures. Where that novel was confused, this is plotted, where it was absurd this one is believable. I can't really say it's better written, because Hamilton still writes like a sarcastic child, but here at least there is a more interesting story. there is some actual detective work (something completely lacking in the first) which was impressive with Anita actually using evidence and police work to find the killer. its just much better put together. This one also steered clear of the silly vampire fetishism of the first and is almost all about zombies. i hope the future vampire ones are a little more serious, like this one. All in all, The laughing Corpse is about 10 times better than Guilty Pleasures - if you liked that one you'll definetely like this one, if you felt GP lacked real plot and pizaz then you might be pleasantly surprised by part 2.
