Century Rain (Gollancz S.F.) |

 | Again Alastair Reynolds shows off his staggering imagination by creating a whole new future universe to encompass an Alternate History/ Detective Thriller/ Potential Space Opera story all rolled into one.
The first half of the book is excellent, easily 5 stars, as it pulls you in to both early story arcs very quickly, and is a definite page turner from practically the first page.
However as the book nears its conclusion things clearly become rushed, and the ending was very ill thought out which ruined a lot of his earlier good work. It appeared he got to the point where he lacked planning slightly, and just thought of the quickest conculsion to close most of the plot threads.
Its a definate shame because the Universe he created has masses of potential, the Thresher/ Slasher back story is wonderful but I just think if he was allowed 100 more pages, he could have produced a classic. read more.
