Lost Man Booker Prize longlist revealed

A selection of twenty two books from 1970 has been compiled as the longlist for the Lost Man Booker Prize. Featured in the list are a collection of the books that missed out on an opportunity to win a prize due to a change in rules that year. The list includes work from Francis King with 'A Domestic Animal', 'A Guilty Thing Surprised' by Ruth Rendell and Patrick O'Brian's Master and Commander, to name just a few.

The Lost Man Booker Prize has been devised by Peter Straus, who is known for his input into the Booker Prize Foundation. The books that have been chosen are still widely in print today, they have also been recognised in the industry, with some of the titles picking up other awards over the years.

A panel of three judges, which include newsreader Katie Derham, poet Tobias Hill and journalist Rachel Cooke, will whittle down the list over the next few months until they decide on six candidates, the shortlist will then be announced in March, with the public then voting on the Man Booker Prize website to decide on a winner by May.
