Jurassic Park Book

Unless your species evolved sometime after 1993, when Jurassic Park hit theatres, you're no doubt familiar with this dinosaur-bites-man disaster tale set on an island theme park gone terribly wrong. But if Speilberg's amped-up CGI creation left you longing for more scientific background and ... well, character development, check out the original Michael Crichton novel. Although not his best book (get a hold of sci-fi classic The Andromeda Strain for that), Jurassic Park fills out the film version's kinetic storyline with additional scenes, dialogue and explanations while still maintaining Crichton's trademark thrills-'n'-chills pacing. As ever, the book really is better than the movie. --Paul Hughes, Amazon.comRead More

Published back in 1990, and immortalised on screen in 1993 by none other than Steven Spielberg, Jurassic Park tells the story of paleontologist Alan Grant, who - accompanied by his graduate student, Ellie Sattler, and mathematician Ian Malcolm - is invited by billionaire John Hammond to a new 'biological reserve' off the coast of Costa Rica. But when they get there, they discover that this is not any ordinary reserve: it's a dinosaur theme park! Before the park is opened to the public, and to cure the nervousness of the park's investors, Grant, Sattler and Malcolm, accompanied by Hammond's grandchildren Lex and Tim, begin a tour of Jurassic Park. But corporate espionage at the hands of Dennis Nedry, Jurassic Park's chief programmer, will put the business of the park and the lives of everyone on the island at risk... With the park's security systems down and the control measures in place to maintain control of the animals failing, the group find themselves stranded and must evade the deadly Velociraptors and escape the jaws of the park's star attraction, the Tyrannosaurus rex, to meet up with the helicopter and be taken to the safety of the mainland. Gripping, scarily plausible and a whole lot of fun, if you love the film and are yet to read Michael Crichton's worldwide bestseller, there has never been a better time to read it now that the film franchise is back!
